I have extensive experience as a Jamboree medical volunteer, serving as the Chief Medical Officer for AT&T Stadium and Summit Center operations from 2017-2023. I am an Emergency Physician with Permanente Medicine and have the time available to devote to Jamboree planning. My wife, Nicole, is a Head and Neck Surgeon with Permanente Medicine, and we have two children, Andrew (12 - a Tenderfoot) and Olivia (10 - a singer, theatre performer, and future Scouts BSA member). Additionally, I serve Scouting as a National OA Committee member (Member Retention Lead) and as the Golden Gate Area Council Vice President of Marketing and Communications. |

|
My top priorities for 2026 are to:
Jamboree planning will occur with optimized use of technology, including single solution applications designed to:
I am committed to teaching and recruiting the next generation by:
I believe in empowering you to utilize your full range of skills and expertise to enhance clinic efficiency. Let's work together towards a more streamlined model of care that integrates urgent care and emergency care principles with EMS operations.
My leadership team will evaluate our policies, procedures, medical operational concepts, treatment protocols, supplies, and formulary to ensure efficient resource utilization and alignment of EMS and Medical operations.
The exciting news for 2026 is that the Jamboree dates have been confirmed, giving us a better picture of what to expect, with a similar attendance expected as 2023. Because of this reduced uncertainty, I am eager for you to fill out the simple form using the button below to express your interest in joining the staff again.

I have a few more calls to make to finalize the core leadership team. You can look forward to receiving regular updates about our staff starting in late spring. Following my attendance at the Jamboree Executive Committee meeting on April 12-13, I anticipate having more information to share. |
- If you are eager to serve again, please click the button below to confirm your interest and to receive follow up emails. Facility leadership will start reaching out to staff after April 1. (This process may take several weeks, so please don't worry if you don't receive a response right away).
- If you are not interested in joining the 2026 Health and Wellness staff, feel free to unsubscribe from this email list by using the link provided in the footer below. (Please ignore the "managing preferences" link, as it is for my council's communication settings.)
- Keep an eye on the 2026 Jamboree website! Costs, theme, program scope, housing sites, etc. are not yet set, but I remain hopeful it will be a similar setup to 2023.
- Always Be Flexible. Things are likely to change, but hopefully not as much as the approach to 2023😂!
Please don't hesitate to contact me using my scouting.org email below if you have any questions. As I am currently without a staff advisor, please understand that my response may be delayed by a day or two. My VoIP number is primarily for external relationships.

NAM Update - 5/18/24

Hello,
Servant leadership involves being the ultimate team player - setting goals, getting your hands dirty, and going the extra mile to help the team succeed. From this perspective, it's not about an organizational chart or who reports to whom, but rather that a servant leader stands by your side to support and empower you. With over 180 individuals expressing interest in joining the Health and Wellness team so far, each person brings their own unique skills to the table. Your talents and abilities are crucial assets for our success, whether you are a support staff member or a licensed clinician. I practice servant leadership and will encourage the core leadership team to do the same.
I am incredibly excited about the progress we are making in planning for the 2026 National Jamboree and I hope you share in my enthusiasm for attending. Mark your calendars: July 22-31, 2026. We anticipate that registration will open in Fall 2024.

Elevate Health & WellnessThe 2026 NJ theme sets the tone, defines the atmosphere, and makes the event distinctive. Health & Wellness team, let's Elevate our approach to care. I challenge you to consider the holistic well-being of our patients, especially focusing on the acute mental health needs of our youth attendees. Elevate our Scouts by educating them on First Aid and basic health & wellness whenever possible. |
2026 National Annual Meeting Update |
|
Well, the big news is that we are now Scouting America. Please begin using that name in lieu of BSA variants immediately. Also, I've attached the presentation that was given by Glenn Ault, Jamboree Chair, and Tom Pendleton, Jamboree Director at the National Annual Meeting. Highlights:
We've made progress on a customized electronic health record (EHR), the contract is in review with BSA legal and being vetted by BSA leadership. All of the CMOs have had an opportunity to review the design and agree that this EHR will help solve a lot of the communication gaps and make information sharing much easier. I am looking forward to kicking off regular core leadership staff meetings in early fall, so updates may be a bit quiet through August. Rest assured, I'll keep you posted on any major developments that come our way. Also in the fall, look for a survey about whether we should hold any evening activities in D1 (remainder of the JST will be housed in Echo) so that you don't have to walk over the hill each evening to hit up the Chat N' Chew. Continue to recruit staff! We need more help and it's a great opportunity to come and serve Scouting America. A link to the staff interest form is below, feel free to share it - remember that the way to stay informed is to complete that form! The photo below is from session 1 of 2023 and features the Stadium/Summit Center staff with many of our excellent Explorers from Mercy Flight in Medford, OR. |

Recruiting Housekeeping Items - Important! |
1) Recruit, Recruit, Recruit!
- Recruiting staff is our top priority. We are ahead in generating interest and awareness compared to past Jamborees, but committing to registering for the event is key. Registration opens this fall, with the Administration Pillar currently vetting staff categories.
- Ensure that all new recruits who are not on the HubSpot spreadsheet complete the interest form (or have a staff member submit on their behalf).
2) Compare Internal Rosters to the HubSpot Roster in G Drive
- The latest HubSpot communication roster can be found here.
- Each clinic and HQ team must review their tab no later than Sunday 8/25.
- Staff will not receive Jamboree updates unless they are captured in HubSpot.
- Clinic teams should review the "unclaimed" tab. Please update the "facility desired" column for any known previous staff.
- Outside of the unclaimed tab update - you do not need to update your individual clinic tab with any internal recruits. Follow item 3 instead.
- Once you've updated and completed the internal recruit update, please send me an email or @ me in the Google Chat to let me know it's complete.
3) Complete HubSpot Form for Internal Recruits
- Ensure that the HubSpot form is completed for any internal recruits on your internal roster that are not on the HubSpot roster. Link below.
- The HubSpot form URL can be shared with any internal recruits, they do not need to access the form through a HubSpot email.
- As registration opens, this process will evolve.

Staff Wellness: Hot Showers, CME (More to Come!), Gatherings, and a Lower Reg Fee!In support of the "Elevate Your Well Being" program and the wellness related theme of this message, staff wellness is equally important! Here's a photo of some of my Summit Center staff after a post Jamboree 2023 rafting trip on the New River. This has been a tradition since 2017, and I hope we can keep that tradition alive in 2026! |
As usual, please don't hesitate to contact me using my scouting.org email below if you have any questions. A full update will be sent after the roster is updated.
